The Top Eight UnderCounter Ice Makers On The Market!
Undercounter ice makers are quickly gaining traction in the culinary, entertainment, cultivation and home environment.
The reasons for that are many, starting out from the fact that ice is not only hard to produce but a pain to store for any longer period of time.
The usual kitchen freezer found in households is mostly laden with frozen meats and other garnishes, leaving little to no room for actual ice to join the fray.
This quickly becomes a problem for many families as the demand for ice dramatically increases during summer times and has been an ongoing conundrum for many companies to solve.
Nowadays, the picture is a lot brighter, as undercounter ice makers joined the fun; They’re small, portable, fast and efficient.
You no longer need to scour your town for any open shops as you can have your own state of the art ice production right in the confines of your home.
With that being said, it is within our interest to always bring the customer to the best products available and as a result of that, we’ve decided to name the best eight undercounter ice makers found online.
Let’s not waste another moment of our time and get right into the review!

Editor’s Choice: The Opal Nugget Ice Maker
The crème de la crème right from the get-go. You would be hard-pressed to find any model that even closely resembles the Opal in terms of power, speed and storing capabilities.
It simply is the best undercounter ice maker currently available to the public and as far as we are concerned, that is to remain.
Here are just some of the reasons why that is the case.
Firstly, I’ve briefly mentioned storing capabilities in one of the latter sentences. Consider the fact that you can treasure up to three pounds of pure, unadultareted ice cubes with no conseqences whatsoever.
Another aspect of this product that proves itself worthy of mentioning is low cooldown between individiaul batches and their completion.
You only need a quarter of an hour to get the first batch ready and any subsequent quantity can be produced the moment the first one leaves the container.
You can open up a freaking industry line with this thing!
Another great thing about this product is the fact that you can bring it anywhere and use it at any time. As long as an electrical outlet, such a socket is available at the place you are residing, the Opal can create large quantities of ice in a short juncture!
I also have to mention the sophisticated technology intergrated within this product. You don’t really need to be a tech-freak in order to use the incorporated Bluetooth add-on;
Simply schedule when your next batch of ices should be done and the machine will do it all for you!
A perfect addition to any household, providing much-needed, top-notch value!
I do have to mention that in order to use the mechanized ice production perk, you have to have a steady internet connection along with the FirstBuild app installed on your phone.
Don’t worry, the app is available for free and its designed with simplicity in mind, so you won’t have to read any complicated guides!
I thing that I forgot to add the best thing about the Opal; You see, traditional undercounter ice makers don’t have a freezer added to the package which means that the ice quickly melts into oblivion!
Not with this product, as even after twelve hours of unsupervised cooldown, the ice was still there and ready to be used.
Now that’s a perk not many manufactorers can pride themselves with.
For the cherry-pickers among us, with the temperature range being comfortably large, you can either create crispy nugget ice or stick with the cultivated and much-appraised Sonic ice!
Just a pro tip; After running this toy for a few rounds, I can confirm that it makes Sonic ice as if it were directly from the company producing it!
My only caveat about the Opal would have to be the fact that isn’t really the cheapest product around. You would have to dig deep into your pockets to get youself one but that’s only reason more to appreciate it.
Once you own one, you’ll never need another undercounter ice maker ever again!
Runner Up: The Igloo ICE105 Counter Top Compact Ice Maker, Stainless
Definitely the sturdiest among all models featured in this article, the Igloo really lets you experience the North Pole from the confines of your warm house.
The added stainless steel ensures that you won’t have any sort of leaks or rusty surfaces, even after years of use.
For reference, I had used mine extensively for the last three years and not a scratch has appeared, so you be the judge of the quality!
The trendiest thing about this product is the LED display along with the flashy lights, each indicating different levels of the creationary cycle.
The LED display allows for easy tracking, ensuring that you’re always in control of what is going on the inside, as well as the outside.
One of the more prominent features of the Igloo is assuredly the fact that you can create differently-sized ice cubes along with the actuality of storing up to a pound of ice in the container.
Talk about versatility!
Another great addition that goes with the main product is the nifty little ice shovel and basket. I’ve always dreaded the fact that once the ice was done, I would either have to use my bare hands as a sort of temporary transporting case.
That was all forgotten once I’ve had the shovel and the basket at my disposal as now, all the ice in the world could reach the kitchen table safely and most importantly, without hassle!
There is one feature that is oftentimes overlooked by manufacturers and the Igloo possesses it while others are still struggling with this conundrum.
Can you guess what it is? Put simply, the clean-up process.
Nobody likes to do it, but someone has to be elected as the sacrificial lamb for the job, but that doesn’t have to be that way.
You see, this product has a drain plug located at the bottom of the machine, simply pull it and all the leftovers will eject themselves from the machine.
All you have to do is ensure that the insides are dried up and you can do that with a simple, clean rug.
This will NEVER take you longer than five minutes.
The last positive I feel endeared to mention is the ventilation system. Many undercounter ice makers simply get heated up too quickly, producing loud sounds and creepy hums.
Forget about it, as the Igloo is as quiet as a sleeping baby, with the added benefit of not having to worry about waking it up!
The one disadvantage of the Igloo is definitely the amount of ice it produces. If you plan on keeping the quantity for personal usage, then this will never arise as an issue.
If on the other hand, you’re a restaurant or a business that requires an extensive amount of ice in short bursts of time, go with the Opal Nugget instead!
Bronze Medal: Ice Machine – Portable, Counter Top Ice Maker MachineTG22
Another model plated in stainless steel, it’s always nice to see that there are still manufacturers out there that care about the end-product they put out on the shelves.
Depending on your exquisite taste, this product allows you to get creative with three distinctive modes, all representing different sizes of the ice cubes.
If you have kids or just like to chew on the ice as a crutch, we recommend using the S (Small) Setting while drinks and other garnishes will do better with the M (Medium) and L (Large) options!
The container is pretty broad and robust considering how small the TG22 looks from the outside; It can carry up to 2,2 pounds of pure ice and it creates batches in rapid succession.
To extrapolate on the last point, you only have to wait for six minutes in order for your ice to be done and ready for service.
One of the better features of this product definitely is the fact that you won’t have to pay a technician any large fees for installing anything.
Simply find an empty socket, plug it in, add water to the container and watch the magic transpire in front of your very eyes!
The integrated LED lights are also a godsend when it comes to knowing where the hell in the process you’re currently in.
I also have to commend the manufactorers on making the layout and command prompts simple to use; A simple on and off button label along with the aforementioned size lever and that’s about it!
To sum up, zero complications, zero technological prowess required and all the ice, a great product.
The one thing which did dampen my mood about the TG22 for a bit was the fact that they did add an ice scoop but didn’t include a tray with it?
That was a bit of a downer but luckily, I had an extra tray in my lines so it wasn’t that big of a deal.
Just thought that the pious thing would be to inform you of that small discrepancy!
4) hOmeLabs Portable Ice Maker Machine
The first machine so far that automatically shuts itself off when the ice tray is full. This is great for a myriad of reasons but let’s get to the most obvious one;
You can set the machine running, go to bed and wake up with a full tray of ice waiting for you.
The best thing about this entire situation has gone amiss; With the ability to store up to 1,5 pounds of ice at once, you’ll be able to satiate all the hungry mouths in your home.
As an added bonus, the cooling functions of this product ensure that the ice doesn’t melt during the night, serving as a perfect blend with the two features mentioned above.
Did I mention that after your batch is completed, the cooldown system gets activated? I usually don’t mention this, as you’ll hear quite the cacophonous sounds emerge from most machines once they’ve decided that enough was enough.
Not with the h0meLabs, as the entire process is so quiet, you would never even notice it in the first place, that is unless someone made you conscious of it, just like I did now!
The last thing worthy of our written words is the little-known fact of using BPA free material during the production cycle.
If you have never heard of BPA, it basically stands for Bisphenol A, a toxic material which can and will cause harm to your children.
Given the fact that stainless steel is one of the biggest forte of the h0meLab, you don’t have to worry about that!
5) The Igloo ICE103 Counter Top Ice Maker
Another Igloo product on our list. This is already starting to smell a bit fishy to me, are we in cahoots with this company?
Of course not! I literally couldn’t help myself but add this product to the list and you’ll know why shortly.
First things first, although the two brothers do have a lot of things in common with each other, there are small nuisances which make the ICE105 just a bit better.
Starting from the top of the charts, we have the added bonus of being able to select the ice cube size, something that the ICE105 doesn’t feature.
On a different note, the ICE103 can get a little noisy once the cooldown feature is in function and it feels as if the ICE105 is an upgrade to an already established problem.
Continuing in a similar fashion is the storing capabilities of the machines. At first glance, one would never even notice a difference but there is one and it’s only feasible once you’ve actually used the machine.
The ice cubes melt extremely fast and you would have to move them to a freezer in one fell swoop or risk the witnessing of all the ice melting back into its unrefined state.
To really draw a line between these two, consider the following; They are both very similar models and they both do the job promptly but there’s just one problem with that conclusion, it’s incomplete.
The ICE105 serves as an upgrade to the ICE103 and we would feel bad for recommending the downgraded version over the upgraded one.
To keep it to the point, both of these machines offer amazing value, but for the sake of your own satisfaction, go with the ICE105!
6) Costway Portable Compact Electric Ice Maker Machine, Black
This model is perfectly designed for smaller parties, gatherings or any other congregations on the tinier side.
It owes such a reputation thanks to the sleek and stylish, modern design, a rarity in the world of undercounter ice makers most companies look out for productivity rather than style.
Speaking of which, in terms of efficacy, it takes an average of between six to nine minutes in order to get a batch completed and given the fact that it can store up to 1,5 pounds of pure ice in it’s storing tray, you’re good to go!
Other features include a simple user interface and two distinct alarms that show in the light sequences. That means that if more water is needed, a bright light flashes alerting you to the need to act.
The same applies for the tray being full of ice!
The last thing to mention about the Costway is how transportable it is, that is why it is mostly recommended for travelers, party-throwers and people that love to live life on the wild side.
Don’t get me wrong, it is still a great addition to any traditional household as it holds all the perks of an usual undercounter ice maker but as we have seen, it has many troves waiting to be discovered!
7) Luma Comfort IM200SS Portable Clear Ice Maker
The last thought on my mind once I saw the Luma was comfort as they like to point out in their name. The machine itself is huge, robust and quite frankly, it resembles a large container if I must say so.
This does come to an advantage when storing capabilities are in question, as it can hold as much as five pounds of ice at once.
Five pounds! Just think about it, most undercounter ice makers can’t even manage a measly 2 pounds so if quantity is an issue, the Luma has you covered!
The waiting time is a bit steep, at fifteen minutes but that’s nothing to worry about as the amount of cubes being produced vastly overshadows any quantities other products can hope to bring out.
I also liked the simple layout and uncomplicated interface, four buttons each having a distinct role to play, no hassle, zero complications.
Just the way I like it!
The one thing that did bother me was the fact that its robust design did come with a negative side; Once mounted, moving it can be a bit of a pain in the neck and you should avoid this model if you plan on changing locations a lot.
8) Costway Portable Compact Electric Ice Maker Machine, Red
Another Costway model has decided to join in the fray but this time, even more care has been put into the design!
Now that’s the way I personally like it, as many undercounter ice makers feature bland designs which are very off-putting.
This product says no to that and is basically rebranding the industry with their boldness.
The company basically comes and says, we’re something new and that’s why you should respect us!
And revered they are, as many customers are drawn in by the short time it takes ice to be ready (only eight minutes), the respectable 1,5 pounds of capacity and the compactness of the product!
That’s not all, I’ve never told you about the amazing indicator lights, alerting you to any potential deficits in the inner workings of the machine, making for an absolutely delightful and fulfilling experience.
Between its sibling, I must admit that little difference can be found except when looking at the colors.
You’re going to have to be the one to decide which color suits you the best and for what occasion it is most appropriate for.
Don’t forget that this is the perfect model for travelers and people living it to the edge!
We’ve seen so many amazing models today and honest to goodness, I’ve had so much fun testing out, playing and tinkering with these beautiful pieces of modern technology.
To think that we’re living in a point of time where you can simply fill a tray of water and have ice available in less than 15 minutes is something that is continually mesmerizing to me.
Judging by our extensive list, there’s literally something for anyone reading it.
Starting out from the high-rollers, we have the highly acclaimed Opal Nugget which is an absolute leader in this field.
We have the two pairs of siblings that represent a perfect blend of stylishness and productivity, all in one setting.
We are of course talking about the Igloo and the Costway, as both machines have proven themselves to be more than worthy for a reserved spot on the list.
We also can’t finish this article without mentioning the robust build of the TG22. This product, along with its manufacturers have basically set a trend in the industry where durability is becoming a huge question to be solved by the companies.
People seem to be realizing that paying a bit more for an undercounter ice maker that will last them for decades is a lot more feasible than replacing model after model after each year.
To conclude, there aren’t really any bad models in this list and we’ve made it certain that there is a healthy mixture of everything on the list.
We hope that one of these becomes your preferred choice and are wishing you the best of both worlds while handling your undercounter ice makers!
